Phil Hughes gets back on track in win over Royals
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Twins pitcher Phil Hughes got back on track with a quality start on Sunday, collecting his first win of the season in his team's 8-3 victory over the Royals.

Hughes tossed four scoreless innings before allowing a run-scoring single to Omar Infante in the fifth and a two-run home run to Alcides Escobar in the seventh. He was charged with three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three over six innings pitched.

Hughes owns a 6.43 ERA, a 1.67 WHIP along with a 20:6 K:BB ratio over 21 innings. He'll look for win No. 2 at home Saturday against Detroit.

Big inning downs Phil Hughes in first loss
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

Struggling Twins pitcher Phil Hughes finally took his first loss of the season Tuesday, in a 9-3 loss to the Blue Jays.

Hughes cruised through the first five innings of his start, before the Blue Jays jumped on him for four straight hits to open the sixth inning. He was pulled from the game, and all four runners came around to score, as he ended up with four earned runs allowed on eight hits and a walk in five innings. He did match a season-high with seven strikeouts, while throwing 60 of 87 pitches for strikes.

Hughes carries a 7.20 ERA and 0-1 record into his fourth start, set for Sunday in Kansas City.

Phil Hughes recovers from awful first inning on Wednesday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Twins right-hander and key offseason acquisition Phil Hughes seemed to find himself Wednesday aganst Oakland, but not before a first-inning disaster.

Hughes yielded two walks, then four consecutive hits to start the game and fall behind, 4-0. Included were doubles by Josh Donaldson and Yoenis Cespedes. Hughes then hurled four shutout innings, giving up just one hit and one walk during that stretch.

He would have taken his second loss, however, had his teammates not tied the game in the ninth. Hughes now owns a disturbing 7.20 ERA with his new team.

Phil Hughes still worth owning in deeper mixed leagues
by Al Melchior | Data Analyst

Going into Wednesday's game against the A's, Phil Hughes was among the Most Dropped players in CBSSports.com leagues, with an ownership rate that has fallen from 55 to 45 percent. After a five-inning start for the Twins that got off on the wrong foot, it would not be surprising to see Hughes get dropped in even more leagues, but he deserves a little more patience from his Fantasy owners.

The first inning of Wednesday's contest, which began with two walks and four hits, was ugly, but after that Hughes settled down, throwing strikes and getting six flyball outs (including four popups) over the next four frames. I thought the move to Target Field would be a good one for Hughes, and those four innings typify the kinds of outings I think he can have there on a regular basis. As a Yankee, Hughes fared much better away from Yankee Stadium, and now that he's away from the AL East, both his home and road splits should improve.

Even deep league owners shouldn't start Hughes every week, but in deeper mixed league formats, he's worth keeping around to use for most scoring periods.

Phil Hughes still giving up gopher balls in new uniform
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The Phil Hughes wearing a Twins uniform performed Thursday quite like the one that pitched for the Yankees a year ago. That is, not good.

Hughes walked just one and struck out seven in five innings, but he gave up four runs to the White Sox and continued to struggle keeping the ball in the park. He yielded up a second-inning home run to Alejandro De Aza and a fifth-inning blast to Adam Dunn. Hughes did leave with a 5-4 lead that his bullpen promptly blew.
