Braves pitcher Eric Stults allows one run in no decision
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Braves pitcher Eric Stults allowed one run on four hits in six innings of work in Atlanta's 4-3 loss to the Mets Wednesday.

"Unfortunately we weren’t able to pull it out there tonight," Stults said after the game, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "But I think as a starter you want to go out and give your team a chance to win, and I was able to do that. It just didn’t go our way tonight."

Stults worked efficiently throughout his start with his only blemish coming in the second inning. After allowing a lead off double to Eric Campbell, he advanced to third on a fly out to right field. Then, Wilmer Flores singled to center to drive Campbell home. Although he left with the lead, his bullpen betrayed him allowing a run in the seventh and eighth inning, leaving Stults with a no-decision.

"He did a nice job changing speeds," Gonzalez said. "He did a nice job doing everything he could to keep us in the ballgame."

Stults, who remains 0-1 on the year, lowered his ERA to 4.50 in 16 innings of work. He will look for his first win of the year Monday against the Nationals.

Eric Stults, Trevor Cahill earn final two spots in Braves' rotation
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Eric Stults, a non-roster invitee to spring training, was named the Braves' No. 4 starter in the rotation, and he'll make his season debut on April 10 at home against the Mets, manager Fredi Gonzalez announced Friday, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Stults, 35, owns a 1.89 ERA and has held opponents to a .250 batting average in five games (one start) this spring. The left-hander will make his final start of the spring Saturday against Baltimore. He'll make $2 million this season for cracking the Opening Day roster.

"He's been a guy, you look at his track record, the last couple of years he's pitched close to 200 innings," Gonzalez said. "You look at his starts and you look at his quality starts, he gets you deep into games. You need those guys on the staff, who get you some innings."

Trevor Cahill, who was acquired from Arizona in a trade on Thursday, has been named the fifth starter. Cahill, 27, allowed four earned runs in 10 innings of work this spring. He'll make his regular season debut with the Braves on April 11.

"... We feel like we got a guy with a lot of upside," Gonzalez said. "He's 27, good sinker, he'll pitch in our ballpark, which is a little more forgiving than Arizona. Get that sinker back and he can really help us."
