Mets' Bartolo Colon: Throws seven excellent innings in win over Cardinals
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon (9-5) allowed just one run on three hits and struck out eight through seven innings in a win Tuesday over the Cardinals.

Not only did Colon toss a gem, he managed to escape with only 87 pitches thrown, which could be critical given his next start Saturday against the Rockies will come on just three days rest. Colon was ultra efficient, as he tossed 65 strikes out of those 87 pitches. He simply pounded the zone -- he needed just seven swinging strikes to generate his eight strikeouts, which is sometimes how it has to be done with a fastball like Colon's -- just 87.8 mph on average.

Mets' Bartolo Colon: To start Saturday on short rest
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Colon will start Saturday on short rest against the Rockies, Newsday's Marc Carig reports.

It seemed that the Mets would have to call upon a spot starter for Saturday's game following Monday's postponement and Tuesday's subsequent doubleheader. However, the lack of effort in Colon's delivery and fact that he was pulled after 87 pitches Tuesday will allow him to take the ball Saturday on three day's rest at home against the Rockies. It may not be the ideal time to deploy him in daily leagues, given the matchup and the fact that he won't be on normal rest, but those who have been using Colon in season-long formats can continue to do so.

Mets' Bartolo Colon: Shelled by Cubs on Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Colon (8-5) served up a season-high six earned runs lasting just 4.1 innings and striking out one in Wednesday's loss at the hands of the Cubs.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo had Colon's number Wednesday, hitting a pair of home runs deep into the right field stands. Despite the rough outing at the hands of the NL's leading run-producing offense, the 43-year-old Colon still sports a 3.48 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He'll look to bounce back in his next start against the Cardinals at home next Tuesday.

Mets' Bartolo Colon: Rides solid start to victory Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon (8-4) gave up three runs (none earned) on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in Friday's 5-3 victory over the Phillies. He struck out four.

The ageless right-hander was solid in his first second-half start, and had the luxury of being staked to a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth. A James Loney throwing error that allowed Odubel Herrera to reach safely set off an unfavorable chain of events for Colon in that frame, as Peter Bourjos tripled him home in the next at-bat. Colon subsequently gave up an RBI groundout to Maikel Franco and a run-scoring single to Cody Asche before exiting after 78 pitches. Despite the hiccup, it was a nice bounce-back outing for the 43-year-old after being tagged for 10 hits and six earned runs against the Nationals on July 7. He'll look to keep the positive momentum going in a matchup against the Cubs next Wednesday.

Mets' Bartolo Colon: Starts Friday for the Mets
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Colon will start the Mets first game after the All-Star break, Friday against the Phillies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Colon will be followed by Logan Verrett, Steven Matz, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. The Mets were looking to give Matz, deGrom and Syndergaard some additional rest and accomplish this by starting Colon and Verrett the first two games after the break.
