Report: Bartolo Colon in the running to start opening day for Mets
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Mets are strongly considering veteran starting pitcher Bartolo Colon for the opening day start April 6 at Washington, multiple sources told ESPN. The sources added the Mets have narrowed the choices to Colon and one other pitcher, who was not named.

If Colon, who went 15-13 with a 4.09 ERA in 2014, gets the nod, then he would become the oldest pitcher (41 years, 317 days old) to start on opening day in the majors since Jamie Moyer (43 years, 136 days) and Randy Johnson (42 years, 205 days) in 2006. He also would become the oldest Mets' opening day starter, surpassing Tom Glavine in 2007 (41 years, 7 days).

Colon has started six times on opening day. Dillon Gee started on opening day for the Mets last season.

Report: Dillon Gee 'could be traded' by Mets in spring
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Mets RHP Dillon Gee was the subject of offseason trade rumors. That's understandable, since he arrived at spring training as one of six established starting pitchers on the Mets' staff.

The other candidates for the Mets' rotation are: LHP Zack Wheeler, 41-year-old RHP Bartolo Colon, LHP Jon Niese , RHP Jacob deGrom, who won last season's NL Rookie of the Year award and RHP Matt Harvey, returning after missing last year with arm surgery.

A source told ESPN New York that, although there wasn't much trade talk on the first day of camp, Gee "could be traded" during the spring, if the right deal came along.

Colon is also a candidate to be traded to clear the logjam in the starting rotation.

If the team keeps all six pitchers, Gee is the leading candidate to be sent to the bullpen for long relief and the occasional spot start.

Gee was 7-8, with a 4.00 ERA in 22 starts for the Mets last year. In his five MLB seasons, all with the Mets, he's 40-34, 3.91. His last relief appearance was in 2011.

Report: Three to four teams still in on Mets SP Dillon Gee
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Three to four clubs still remain interested in Mets pitcher Dillon Gee, sourced told Mike Puma of the New York Post. Jonathon Niese and Bartolo Colon are still "long-shots" to be traded, per the report.

Gee settled for $5.3 million next season prior to Friday's arbitration deadline. He finished last season 7-8 with a 4.00 ERA, marking the third time in four years his ERA has reached that level.

Report: Mets expect SP trade talks to heat up, Gee top target
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Mets are expecting trade talks to pick up for starting pitchers Dillon Gee, Jonathon Niese and Bartolo Colon, a team source told the New York Post.

Gee appears to be the most likely candidate to be traded. New York was trying to deal him at the Winter Meetings in December. The Mets appear hesitant to trade Niese because he might be the only left-handed candidate for the rotation.

The source said if the Mets can't make a trade, there is a chance the team would go to spring training with six starters and have one of them potentially open the 2015 season in the bullpen.

Mets GM Alderson: We're not looking to trade SP Bartolo Colon
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters he's not interested in moving 41-year-old right-hander Bartolo Colon this offseason. He clarified he's still listening to offers for Colon, but may likely hold back on trading his veteran starter. Colon went 15-13 with a 4.09 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP and 151:30 K:BB ratio in 202 1/3 innings.

"We like Bartolo...Frankly, we're not looking to trade him," Alderson said, per the Star-Ledger.
