Brandon Bass opting for free agency

By Royce Young | NBA writer

Brandon Bass played up his pricetag this postseason. Big playoff performances tend to do that.

Bass has a $4.25 million player option for next season, but plans on declining it, opting for unrestricted free agency.

"Obviously, he would love to be back in Boston," agent Tony Dutt told ESPNBoston.com. "We will inform them that he plans to become an unrestricted free agent, but my gut tells me they are going to want to keep him. And I'm sure he'll have several other teams interested."

Bass was acquired by the Celtics last offseason in a deal for Glen Davis. It turned out to be a very good trade for Boston as Bass added some athleticism to the Celtic frontline, as well as a solid mid-range shotmaking ability.

The question is if Bass wants to remain in Boston or is looking for his payday somewhere else.

"This group here was like family, for the first time in a long time. It felt like family," Bass said about the Celtics.

Still, Bass has yet to have a big NBA contract and with his strong performances and contributions in Boston, he's going to be looking for it. He might prefer to remain with the Celtics, but that doesn't mean he's going to be granting any discounts.
