Chris Kaman signs with the Mavericks
The Mavericks finally have their free agent All-Star.
It's not Deron Williams. Or Dwight Howard. Or Steve Nash. Or really anyone that the Mavs were probably intending to target when they cleared cap space for this summer.
It's Chris Kaman. According to reports, Kaman will be on a one-year, $8 million deal. The big man tweeted Wednesday, "Partnering up with @swish41 and heading to the Mavs........"
Kaman, 30, was sent to the Hornets last season as part of the Chris Paul trade appearing in 47 games. He's only two years removed from being named an All-Star and as the Mavs pick up the pieces from missing out on a number of prime free agents, they're left to build a competitive roster around Dirk Nowitzki.
Of note: Kaman and Nowitzki are teammates on the German national team.
Kaman is honestly a pretty good pickup, especially in the sense it's only a one year deal which means the Mavs keep open their 2013 summer options when Howard and Chris Paul are free agents. He's a pretty skilled seven-footer that plays well in a pick-and-pop two-man style game, rebounds well and should fit solidly beside Nowitzki.
Kaman averaged 13.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game last season for the Hornets.
