Suns sign Eric Gordon to offer sheet, Hornets still expected to match

By Matt Moore | NBA writer

In the Suns' game of chicken with the New Orleans Hornets over Eric Gordon, they're not going halfway. The Suns signed restricted free agent guard Gordon to a reportedly four-year, $58 million max extension on Wednesday, despite multiple indications that the Hornets expect to match the offer.

Gordon had expressed immediately after coming to terms with the Suns that he didn't want the Hornets to match the offer, saying his "heart" is in Phoenix. The Hornets wouldn't comment on the matter, but every indication is that the Hornets will match. They let the market establish Gordon's value, and avoided a fifth year on his contract.

The Hornets have three days to match the offer.
