Lakers' Nash says he'll be out two more weeks

After Mike D'Antoni hinted that star point guard Steve Nash could return this week on the Lakers' road trip, Steve Nash put the kibosh on that idea in an interview with USA Today:

"I think it will be at least another two weeks," Nash said. "I can move. I can shoot. I just can't run full speed. And I'm not even in shape. I'll probably need at least a week of practice once I start running."

So that's depressing, even for a season where the Lakers need for some things to go their way to beat the Cavaliers Tuesday.

The Lakers and their fans have hung their hopes on Nash's return to solve their problems by opening up the offense and making everything click in terms of chemistry. The fact that he won't help at all defensively should not be discussed.

It's not polite.

So while the Lakers are likely to get back Pau Gasol soon, it's going to be a bit on Nash. The 38-year-old has to not only get back healthy, but in game-shape, which is always the hard part.

The Lakers' luck might turn sometime this year. We think. Maybe.

(But we're not putting money on it.)
