After Bosh news, Justise Winslow says the Heat can be his team soon
Life comes at you fast in Miami
With news that Chris Bosh's career with the Miami Heat is over and the organization is in full-on rebuilding mode, Pat Riley confirmed to reporters at media day that it's a new era for the franchise. Still, it's a little jarring to see 20-year-old forward Justise Winslow talking about the Heat becoming his team, via CBS Sports' Ethan Skolnick:

Winslow is coming off a rookie season where he showed defensive intelligence and poise that you don't normally see from someone his age. Miami was lucky to nab him with the No. 10 pick in last year's draft, and he's certainly a core part of the team going forward. As the Heat rebuild, helping Winslow develop as an offensive player should be a huge priority.
This is all so sudden, though, isn't it? Just last year, many thought that Miami had the talent to challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Eastern Conference crown. Now, with Bosh's health scare and the departures of Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng and Joe Johnson in free agency, the focus is on the future. In the short term, this could be one of the worst teams in the conference.

Winslow should absolutely see this as an opportunity to take a bigger role. He averaged 5.9 shots per game last year, and that number could conceivably double this season. For the the rest of the organization, though, this harmless quote is indicative of a massive shift. What does, say, the 30-year-old Goran Dragic think about all of this? Rebuilding was definitely not what he signed up for when he agreed to a five-year deal with the Heat last summer. Now, it is unquestionably the reality.
