Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving hints at 'Uncle Drew' movie
The guard said he's planning something 'big' involving the character
Kyrie Irving is not done acting like an old man. The Cleveland Cavaliers guard told reporters that big things are coming for his alter ego, "Uncle Drew," adding that he's not referring to another Pepsi commercial that will be posted on YouTube. Oh, the intrigue!
Whenever the next chapter in the series is worked on -- Irving said the summer of 2017 is unlikely, but wouldn't rule out summer 2018 -- the Cavs point guard hinted that something special is in store for what he says will be the closing episode for the conceit.
"There is something big that we're planning, which I'm really excited about," Irving said at shootaround Thursday. "Hopefully the details can be released in the forthcoming future, but I'm excited about it. There will be a last chapter that will happen, but I don't think it will be on YouTube."
If not YouTube, a reporter asked, where? The movies?
"If you got that from that, yeah," Irving said, keeping some mystery around it. "For sure. For sure."

If you're somehow unaware, the "Uncle Drew" character debuted a 2012 video to promote Pepsi Max. In the advertisement, Irving was made up to look like a very convincing old man, and that old man happened to be incredible at basketball (and trash talk). It was a hit, and there have been follow-ups with guest stars like J.B. Smoove, Kevin Love, Ray Allen and Baron Davis. When the Cavaliers won the NBA championship in June, Pepsi commemorated it with -- you guessed it -- new "Uncle Drew" content.
It appears that, four years later, people still aren't sick of Irving's alter ego. A word of caution, though: a movie might be taking this too far. Besides, "Bad Grandpa" has been done already.
