James Harden says Carmelo Anthony trade is 'out of his hands'
James Harden wouldn't say one way or the other if he wanted to trade for Carmelo Anthony
James Harden has seen the Rockets spend their offseason getting him the help he deserves after he came up short in a miserable Game 6 loss to San Antonio in the second round. Harden looked exhausted and it was clear to the Rockets front office they had to get the face of their franchise some help. They've already accomplished that by trading for Chris Paul, but Houston isn't done there. Now they want Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.
Harden was asked about a potential Anthony trade after one of his basketball camps, but he made sure to not give his hand on if he wants Houston to trade for Anthony. He called him a tremendous player, but Harden seemed pretty content with what the Rockets already have.
"I let the front office deal with that," Harden said. "If we can get him, obviously he would help our team tremendously. What we have right now in our locker room is pretty good."
Harden is also well aware that, while adding Anthony would be a tremendous help to the team, he can't really do anything about the actual trade process. He can pitch Anthony on a trade all he wants, but if the Knicks and Rockets front offices can't reach an agreement then there isn't much else he can do.
"That's out of my hands," Harden said. "I go out there and put the basketball in the hoop and handle my business."
The Rockets and Knicks were getting closer to a deal before New York hired Scott Perry as their new GM. Now they reportedly want to talk to Anthony about possibly staying. New York would probably be better just getting a deal done instead of dragging this out any longer. Harden would probably appreciate that as well.
