NBA Playoffs 2017: Computer simulation predicts rough road for Cavs, Rockets
Losing the No. 1 seed may hurt the Cavs more than we thought
The NBA Playoffs are here and there's a clear favorite, but does the computer back up what we're seeing on the court?
It sure does, at least for the front-runner.
The Warriors won a whopping 57 percent of the 10,000 simulations of this year's NBA playoffs run by the SportsLine Projection Model. While Golden State being on top isn't a surprise, some of the other results might be.
For instance, it looks like the Cavaliers opting to rest instead of going for the No. 1 seed in the East may come back to haunt them, as their chances of winning the title took a significant hit once they fell to the No. 2 seed.
"It actually hurt them quite a bit," said Stephen Oh, SportsLine's principal engineer. "I have Indiana as a much tougher out than Chicago."
In another surprise, the No. 3-seeded Rockets actually came out with a worse chance to win the title than three lower seeds in the West.
