Philadelphia 76ers win lottery, will pick No. 1 in 2016 NBA Draft
The tank job finally worked out for Philadelphia
The Philadelphia 76ers finally did it. After years and years of trying and failing to obtain the No. 1 pick, the Sixers won the NBA lottery Tuesday and will hold the top spot in the 2016 NBA Draft. The pick comes not without trepidation as the Sixers now have to choose between two prospects in Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, who are both excruciatingly close in most draft evaluations.
Having the choice is good, having to choose is tough. They also landed the No. 1 pick in one of the weakest drafts of the last five years, behind only probably the 2013 draft. The Sixers will now have, if Joel Embiid is healthy, Embiid, Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor and Simmons (or) Ingram. That's a stacked roster and for once, the top pick isn't a big man. We'll see whether they go with Simmons' athleticism and passing or Ingram's scoring and versatility.
Either way, the Sixers finally got things to go their way. Whether this means vindication for Sam Hinkie who resigned as GM last month or proof of the basketball gods showering light on them is still to be determined with how this pick turns out.
