Report: Dewayne Dedmon to opt out with Spurs and become unrestricted free agent
The 7-foot center played big minutes for the Spurs in the NBA playoffs.
Dewayne Dedmon will decline his $3 million player option with the Spurs next season and become an unrestricted free agent, according to a report from The Vertical on Tuesday.
The seven-footer played in 76 games with San Antonio last season where he averaged 17.5 minutes, 5.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game -- all career-highs for the fourth-year big man. He signed last offseason with the Spurs for a two-year deal worth $6 million.
Dedmon was an energizer bunny off the bench for the Spurs in the NBA playoffs but wasn't a perfect fit with the Spurs and their culture. The 27-year-old center had a number of options last offseason before committing to play for Gregg Popovich, and with his production last season, he'll have a chance to find a better fit.
Before signing with the Spurs, Dedmon was reportedly close to signing with the Golden State Warriors.
