Houston Rockets guard Jason Terry interviewed for UAB's vacant head-coaching position on Thursday, he told Fox 26 Sports' Mark Berman. Terry, 38, is in his 17th year in the NBA, but has not announced that he will retire at the end of the season. In fact, he told Fox 26 Sports that he hasn't even made his mind up about that yet -- he is just exploring an opportunity.

"No, I'm focused on the playoffs, and there has been no offer made, but I have to keep all my options open when it comes to my post-playing career," Terry said.

Former UAB coach Jerod Haase was hired by Stanford last week.

Ideally, Terry would like to play a couple more seasons in the NBA, per ESPN's Calvin Watkins:

"It went well," Terry said. "UAB is in an interesting situation, the success they had, but Coach Haase's immediate departure left that job open. I have deep roots in the Birmingham community -- uncles, cousins, aunts -- and so I'm very familiar with the area. So we'll see what happens. It was a good meeting that I had."

"In this business, you have to plan for your post-career," he said. "This is no different, being prepared. You always have to be prepared. Would I like to play a couple more years? Yes. But I have to leave my options open. And if this offer is better than what I have on the horizon, then I'm going to have to jump head-first in it. There is some longevity in it, and it is my passion."

This might seem to come out of nowhere, but Terry has been talking about wanting to coach for years. Back in 2010, he coached his daughter's basketball team and told reporters at Dallas Mavericks media day that he wanted to coach at his alma mater, Arizona, eventually.

Wonder if he'll be allowed to wear a headband on the sideline.
