There are ongoing efforts in Seattle to construct an arena that could serve as the home of a future expansion team with the NBA or NHL. Chris Hansen recently bought a large swath of land to pay for and develop an arena on his own after the city council declined a street clearance vote for an approved plan.

Now he's getting help with his efforts from a local celebrity, as Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has pledged his help.

There were rumors of possible expansion a few weeks ago, which notably the league did not immediately refute. Seattle is a prominent destination, and there's clearly an intent to repair the damage done when the SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, meanwhile, has made it clear the league will have no interest until Seattle builds a stadium. But without the promise of a team, public officials and voters have no motivation to back it. Hansen and Wilson, along with the SAG are going to have to force the issue. Maybe they can do just that, and basketball can return (or hockey can arrive) to Seattle.
