Salt Lake City tourism officials troll Warriors 'no nightlife' comments
The Warriors say there's no nighlife in Utah so Utah officials clapped back
The Golden State Warriors were rooting for the Clippers to defeat the Utah Jazz in the first round of the NBA playoffs because of the nightlife -- or lack thereof -- in Salt Lake City.
Tourism officials there are apparently dealing with a perception that the Salt Lake area is dull, and they've decided to clap back by releasing a clever video titled "There's nothing to do in Salt Lake." The video features locals enjoying the bar scene, local breweries, dining and more. Although YouTube video was made in 2015, it's right on time, given the Warriors' comments.
To add to all the ribbing, Scott Beck, the president of Visit Salt Lake, sent a personalized letter to the Warriors players wishing them an extra fun time during their stay in Utah, which is guaranteed to be for at least two games.
"In case you do stumble across something to do while here in Salt Lake, all of our bartenders and servers are on notice to keep you up late!" the letter reads.
The perception that Salt Lake City is dull is nothing new for tourism officials, but instead of pouting they took the opportunity to generate good PR.
"It was a little bit of deja vu," Beck said Tuesday, laughing about when he first read the Warriors' comments. "It was like, 'Oh, no, not again,' and then, 'Wait a minute, this is an opportunity.'"
