The Philadelphia 76ers made a big splash in free agency on Saturday, as they scooped up JJ Redick on a one-year, $23 million deal. It was a brilliant move for the Sixers, as Redick address their biggest on-court need, 3-point shooting. From Saturday's newser on the signing:

Philly was tied for 24th in the league last season, making only 34 percent of their 3-point attempts. But that shouldn't be the case next season, as Redick is still one of the best shooters in the world, finishing sixth in the Association in 2016-17 by knocking down just under 43 percent of shots from downtown with the Clippers last season.

Redick brings his sharp-shooting skills and spacing on the floor, which will greatly improve the 76ers' offense. And in addition, he will be a perfect veteran presence to add to one of the youngest locker rooms in the league. With Redick in town, and assuming everyone stays healthy for the most part (which is a big assumption), the Sixers could very well be a playoff team in the weakened Eastern Conference.

In fact, according to projections ran by SportsLine data scientist Stephen Oh, the Sixers should make the playoffs next season. Based on the SportsLine simulations, adding Redick gives the Sixers an 80 percent chance of making the postseason, and projects them to finish sixth in the conference with 42 wins.

Of course, these are just projections, but with Redick joining their young core, the Sixers have a very good chance of making their first trip to the playoffs since 2012.
