Elliot Williams signed a contract with Panathinaikos of Greece on Tuesday, Sportando reports.
Williams previously appeared in five games for the Grizzlies this season, producing averages of 1.6 points and 0.8 assists in 9.2 minutes before he was released from his 10-day contract in January. He had since returned back to the D-League, where he was one of the circuit's leading scorers, but he'll now pursue a more lucrative payday in Europe. Look for Williams to return to the United States after the season with the hope of earning an invite to an NBA training camp in 2016-17.
Williams appeared in five games for the Grizzlies, tallying just eight total points over 46 minutes of action. The former first-round pick will likely return to the D-League -- where he was averaging 28.1 points and 5.8 assists in 16 games this season -- in hopes of piquing another team's interest.
Williams has been playing with the D-League's Santa Cruz Warriors this season, and has lit up the circuit, averaging 28.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.2 steals in 41 minutes per contest. His addition will give the Grizzlies some depth at point guard after the team recently released Russ Smith.
Elliot Williams was waived by the Hornets on Friday.
Williams dealt with a hip injury throughout training camp and the preseason, and he'll now look to latch on with another team. He appeared in only 13 NBA games last season, signing separate 10-day deals with both the Jazz and Pelicans. The journeyman will likely find himself in a similar scenario this season.
Hornets guard Elliott Elliot Williams (hip) will be available for Saturday's preseason game.
He had missed the first preseason games with a hip issue, but it appears he'll be close to full health for the start of the season.
