It was reported earlier this week that the Warriors and Lee's camp came to an agreement that the team would look to find Lee a new team this offseason. Myers is suggesting that that move has not been made.
“I know it’s been reported, but we’re still trying to figure out everything with the roster,” Myers said at a season-ending news conference. “At this stage, we usually have more time before the draft or free agency.
“But I won’t sit here and say we’ve decided anything definitively. If I did, I’d probably end up changing my mind, or we would change our mind. Because what I’ll find out now and what we’ll find out is the next seven days prior to the draft and whatever it is until July 1, there’ll be a lot of different things that’ll be thrown at us that we’ll explore. So it’s not the right time to even say we’re absolutely going in one direction or the other.”
Lee played in just 38 minutes over six games during the NBA Finals.
After a season of mostly sitting on the bench while being the team's highest paid player, the
Lee's representatives and the Warriors will work together to find Lee a new team in the offseason.
Lee played 38 minutes over six games in the NBA Finals and he received just 12 minutes in the Western Conference Finals against Houston.
Steve Kerr has vowed to use Game 3 surprise
The center emerged from the bench to give the
"Yeah, you'll see more of David Lee," Kerr told the New York Post. "He played really well."
Lee, who has been anticipating a trade from Golden State the last two years, had not played in the previous three playoff games and was given just 12 minutes in the Western Conference finals against Houston.
Lee, who's role has been dramatically decreased throughout the season, feels like the team will continue to try and move him -- like they've done for the last two years.
"I think they tried to trade me the last two years, didn't they?" Lee said. "That's nothing new, but once again, what's kind of predicted and what ends up happening is not always the same thing. We'll just see what happens. I love it here. We have accomplished a lot here. We'll see once the season's over. The most important thing, though, is getting this ring first and then worrying about that later."
The Warriors are in a position where priority will be to sign Draymond Green to a big-money extension this offseason, and Klay Thompson's extension kicks in next year so that can make Lee's contract expendable.
Lee has played just 7.6 minutes per game throughout the Warriors playoff run.
The transition to part-time player has been difficult for Lee, per the New York Post.
“It’s a different mental approach,’’ Lee said. “You can’t play the same way in five minutes, can’t let the game come to you and settle in. You have to be more aggressive, can’t come in worrying about scoring, just rebounding and playing with max effort. You got to let it all hang out.’’
Lee's position is a difficult one. He was a featured player on the team until a hamstring injury sidelined him for a while and his role diminished.
“I sat out a significant amount of time [with a hamstring injury]. It’s no fun to sit out and my role changed as I came back,” Lee said. “But most importantly I’ve had a lot of individual success in past seasons, and I don’t think anyone doubts my ability to play this game at a high level.
“The biggest thing is finding a way to put this championship together. All season long, it’s sacrificing, not just me but other guys. That’s what it takes to win a championship. It’s not about me or the minutes at this point.… I’ll be ready to contribute if given the chance.”
