No hotel power forces Steelers into NYC game-day trip

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

Hurricane Sandy left a swath of tri-state areas without power, and one of those areas is Jersey City, where the Steelers planned to stay in advance of their game against the Giants on Sunday.

But because the Westin in Jersey City has no power, the Steelers are now taking a day trip from Pittsburgh to New York, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

According to Bouchette, the Steelers searched for hotels in and around New York City, but no vacancy resulted in them being forced to book a flight from Pittsburgh to Newark on Sunday morning.

The NFL requires that teams arrive a day early for their game into visiting cities, but is apparently waiving that requirement in advance of the issues that Sandy's caused around the northeast in general.
