Colts QB Andrew Luck sets single-game rookie record for passing yards

Andrew Luck set the single-game record for passing yards by an NFL rookie quarterback on Sunday when he threw for 433 yards in the Colts' 23-20 win over the Dolphins.

Luck broke the record that Carolina's Cam Newton set when he passed for 432 yards against the Packers in Week 2 of the 2011 season. Newton had broken his previous record of 422 yards, a number that Matthew Stafford also reached in 2009.

The man whom Luck faced off against, fellow rookie Ryan Tannehill, also topped 400 when he threw for 431 yards in Week 4 this season. Matt Leinart, Marc Bulger (age 25), Aaron Brooks (24) and Jeff Garcia (29) are the only other quarterbacks to top 400 yards in a game as a rookie.

It wasn't the only record that Luck achieved on Sunday. He also became just the second quarterback in NFL history to have four 300-yard passing games in his first season.

The other quarterback? Peyton Manning, of course.

Manning's having himself quite the season in Denver, but Luck's quickly helping Colts fans move on from their last legendary signal caller by looking like a quarterback who can provide more than a decade's worth of impressive performances.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about his outing, though, was that he managed to complete 62.5 percent of his passes and averaged more than nine yards per passing attempt during his big day.
