Report: Christian Ponder dealing with bursitis in throwing elbow

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

With the Vikings set to face off with the Packers on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET in their wild-card matchup, there's now a real question whether Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder will be ready to play.

That's because 1500 ESPN is reporting Ponder has been dealing with bursitis in his elbow, and fluid from his throwing arm might need to be drained before the game.

Ponder reportedly could play on Saturday night, but the team is concerned about a lack of practice reps from this week (1500 ESPN also reported that backup Joe Webb took more practice snaps than usual).

“The expectation is the Vikings will work out Ponder at Lambeau Field a few hours before the 7 p.m. [CT] kickoff to make sure the issue is not significantly impacting his throwing motion,” 1500 ESPN's Tom Pelissero writes on the website.

So, it sounds like Ponder will still play. But this clearly isn't good news for the Vikings.
