Report: With torn ACL, RG3 to undergo surgery Wednesday

We already knew that Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III would need to undergo surgery to fix a torn LCL suffered last Sunday vs. the Seahawks. But according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, there's even worse news. That's because Griffin reportedly will have to undergo a complete reconstruction of his knee to fix a torn ACL and LCL.

Mortensen writes that the recovery projection is 6-8 months, meaning Griffin likely will miss all of OTAs and mini-camp and that his recovery could bleed into next training camp or perhaps into the early part of 2013. Mortensen's sources, though, believe Griffin will be ready by the 2013 season opener.

Dr. James Andrews -- who, as you'll recall, was nervous with Griffin playing after he sprained his LCL last month -- will perform at the surgery at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Mortensen writes that already the diagnosis has been made that the ACL graft from Griffin's 2009 surgery has "a complete tear."

As CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora already mentioned Tuesday night, look for Kirk Cousins to take over as the No. 1 Washington quarterback until Griffin is ready to return.
