Chiefs agree to three-year deal with CB Sean Smith
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports it's a three-year deal worth $18 million.

A former second-round pick out of Utah, Smith spent his first four NFL seasons in Miami. In 2012, he had two interceptions, three forced fumbles and 12 passes defended. According to Football Outsiders, the Dolphins' pass defense ranked 17th against opponents' No. 1 receivers.
These numbers are bolstered by ProFootballFocus.com, which notes that "Smith is long on talent even if he did lead the league in giving up the most combined first downs and touchdowns last year. He gave up 1.17 yards per snap in coverage last year (27th best of all cornerbacks) and finished the year with a +0.7 grade in coverage on the back of a strong start and poor finish to the year."
But, at 25, Smith has plenty of time to become a more consistent player. And, at 6-foot-3, 218 pounds, he already has the size to match up well against Broncos wideout Demaryius Thomas.
In addition to Alex and Sean Smith and Robinson, the Chiefs have also added tight end Anthony Fasano, wide receiver Donnie Avery, quarterback Chase Daniel and defensive lineman Mike DeVito.
And while it's rarely the case that an offseason spending spree magically fixes a fatally-flawed team (Reid had first-hand experience with this in Philadelphia two years ago), at least the Chiefs are doing something. A seven- or eight-win season in 2013, by most accounts, would be considered not only a step in the right direction but a resounding success.
