There is an unbelievable fascination in New England with Jimmy Garoppolo unseating Tom Brady as the starting quarterback of the Patriots. In 2014, Belichick nearly lost his mind when someone suggested he should bench Brady for Jimmy G after the Pats lost to the Chiefs.

With Brady serving a four-game suspension to start the 2016 season, the topic of Garoppolo unseating Brady is a hot one before the season. Belichick was asked about it on Wednesday and shrugged it off fairly politely. He was less enthusiastic on Friday when someone in the media doubled down on the issue.

Asked if he thought Garoppolo could win the Pats starting job by playing well in the first four games of the year, Belichick became exasperated.

A quick/rough translation:

"What happens if Jimmy plays better?"

"Look, I told you what's going to happen."

"So there's no [chance]?"

WHAT A GREAT QUESTION, BUDDY. via NFL.com

"Jesus Christ."

Shoutout to SB Nation for creating a cartoon version of the exchange, although they're probably missing some sort of swear-word thought bubble here.

It really is the dumbest question on the planet. Tom Brady is the Patriots starting quarterback until Tom Brady decides he is no longer the Patriots starting quarterback. He is the face of the franchise and quite arguably the best quarterback of all time. Bill Belichick has made this very argument himself.

Asking whether Garoppolo can steal the job out from under him with a four-game sample against the Cardinals, Bills, Dolphins and Texans is asinine and a waste of everyone's time. Belichick's response is pretty measured considering the scope.
