Darren McFadden broke his elbow while trying to avoid dropping iPhone
The Cowboys running back might want to invest in elbow pads
Darren McFadden, whose NFL career has been beset by injuries, is now out at least a couple months after having surgery on his broken elbow. But unlike your garden-variety NFL injury -- pulling a hamstring stretching for an errant pass, a high-ankle sprain resulting from a low block -- McFadden's latest setback is almost too ridiculous to believe.
According to Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown, McFadden fell on his right elbow over Memorial Day weekend while trying to keep from dropping his cell phone.
Even Jeff Kent thinks this is absurd.
"He was trying to keep his iPhoneS, his brand new one, from hitting the ground and cracked his elbow,'' Brown said, via the Dallas Morning News.
This seems ... improbable. Unless McFadden was standing on his roof (or, we suppose, on top of his truck.) Of course, this would certainly explains a lot:

Meanwhile, Cowboys coaches and teammates shared their thoughts:
Jason Witten on McFadden elbow injury: "I actually saw it. It was pretty swollen up. I was kind of making fun of him a little bit."

Jason Garrett on Darren McFadden injuring his elbow trying to catch his cell phone: "I think he probably thought he could make the play."

Jason Garrett: I don't think Darren McFadden thought to himself, "my choices here are to either let the phone fall OR break my elbow."

The Cowboys have options at running back. They signed veteran Alfred Morris this offseason and used the No. 4 overall pick on former Ohio State star Ezekiel Elliott in the 2016 NFL Draft.
"It really doesn't change much at all honestly," Elliott said. "It just means more reps with the first team, but you hate seeing one of your guys go down. You hate to see one of your warriors wounded. But he's going to be around a lot."
Either way, we'd just suggest someone make sure Tony Romo and Dez Bryant have phone cases.
