Less than 24 hours after they thought Ryan Tannehill was definitely done for the season, the Miami Dolphins got some good news Monday.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase has announced that Tannehill did not tear his ACL during Miami's 26-23 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday. Testing on Tannehill's leg revealed that the quarterback suffered an ACL and MCL sprain, which is much less serious than a full ACL tear.

Despite the good news, Gase said he is unsure if Tannehill will be able to return this season. A strained ligament in the knee can take several weeks to heal, which could be an issue because the Dolphins only have three weeks remaining in the regular season.

With Tannehill almost definitely out for the next few weeks, it will be up to backup quarterback Matt Moore to lead Miami to the playoffs. If the Dolphins can sneak in to the postseason, there would likely be a chance that Tannehill could return.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a strained ACL/MCL in 2015 and missed four weeks due to the injury. If Tannehill were to recover at that rate, he could potentially be back for the divisional round of the playoffs if the Dolphins were still alive.

The Dolphins, who are currently in the No. 7 spot in the AFC, close the season with the Jets, Bills and Patriots. At 8-5, Miami is tied with Denver for the final playoff spot in the AFC, but the Broncos currently hold the tiebreaker over the Dolphins.

Tannehill was injured during the third quarter of Miami's win over Arizona after taking a shot to the knee from Calais Campbell. Before leaving the game, Tannehill led the Dolphins to a 21-9 lead by throwing for 195 yards and three touchdowns.
