Falcons player slips in shower, hits head, now in concussion protocol

Like many NFL players this season, Falcons running back Tevin Coleman is in the league's concussion protocol. How he ended up there, however, is unique. The rookie third-round pick slipped in the shower Wednesday at the team facility.
"[He] fell and hit his head, and he is in the concussion protocol," coach Dan Quinn said. "That's unfortunate."
Indeed.
Coleman was the Falcons' starting running back until he suffered a fractured rib in Week 2. For the season, he's appeared in 12 games and has 87 carries for 392 yards and a touchdown. Coleman's best performance came against the Vikings on Week 12 (18 carries, 110 yards) though his workload has been limited recently (three games, 10 carries, 51 yards).
If Coleman is unavailable when the Falcons host the Panthers on Sunday, undrafted rookie Terron Ward would serve as Freeman's backup.
Meanwhile, the Falcons, who started the season on a 5-0 run only to win twice in their last seven games, remain in the playoff mix. They're currently the No. 7 seed behind wild-card teams Seattle and Minnesota, though the Falcons' chances of making it to the postseason require them to win out while the Seahawks and Vikings lose out.
