Like a young Elvis, the world is not ready for a hip-thrusting Carson Palmer. At least not yet. The NFL fined the Cardinals quarterback $11,576 for his celebratory gyratin' late in last Sunday night's game against the Seahawks.

"I had my buddies in the sideline, right four or five rows up," Palmer explained. "I saw them pretty excited and [that] got me excited to see them excited."

It didn't matter that Palmer wasn't thrusting in the general direction of a bunch of dejected Seahaws fans, but at his friends. The NFL frowns on such behavior, even from one of the league's most respected players.

But supporters are coming together to fight for Palmer's right to express himself (this ain't Footloose, people) by donating money to the appropriately named "Carson Palmer Thrust Fund."

Actually, the crowd funding effort was initiated by 98.7 FM, the Cardinals' broadcast partner, and as of this writing 223 people have donated $2,161. As ProFootballTalk points out, a player must pay his own fine, which means that any "Thrust Fund" donations likely will have to be given to charity.

Here's to hoping John Lithgow plays the role of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell when this is made into a movie.
