Here's when Jay Cutler will get to be in the booth for his first Bears game on Fox
The Fox debut of the former Bears quarterback could get interesting
If Jay Cutler wants to use his new job to take a couple of shots at his old team, he won't have to wait long.
Cutler's new broadcasting partner at Fox, Kevin Burkhardt, revealed Friday that Cutler's first game in the booth will be, yup, a Bears game.
"We got a preseason game, our crew, and the preseason game is the Bears at the Titans," Burkhardt told host Adam Schein during an appearance on Sirius XM's Mad Dog Sports Radio.
According to Burkhardt, the former Bears quarterback, who announced Friday that he's retiring from the NFL to join Fox Sports, is looking forward to sitting in the booth for a Bears game.
"You know what, he's excited about it. The fact that that's going to be our first game out of the game is pretty awesome stuff," Burkhardt said.
Burkhard also added that Cutler is "going to surprise a lot of people. He's smart. He's engaging."
If you need to set your DVR now because you don't want to miss Cutler roasting the Bears, the game between Tennessee and Chicago is set to kick off at 1 p.m. ET on Aug. 27.
As for Cutler, don't look for him to make a return to the NFL. The 34-year-old said he thinks the move to the broadcasting booth will likely be a permanent one.
"Yeah. I think so," Cutler said on WMVP-AM's The Waddle and Silvy Show, via NFL.com. "It is. I don't really see anything else happening. I'm happy with where I am, you know, in my life and really in the future going forward. So, yeah, we can go ahead and say it. It's permanent."
The quarterback, who was reportedly in serious talks with the Jets about possibly going to New York in 2017, did admit they'll he'll likely have some regret about walking away from the game.
"There is zero doubt in my mind that there is going to be some regret," Cutler said, when the subject of retirement came up. "I have no doubt in my mind come the middle of August, September there is going to be that itch to play. There is going to be part of me that I know I can still do it. But that's now how the cards played out, and that's not where we are at. I just don't feel comfortable with a situation in August or September of jumping back into it, even if that situation arises, which I don't think it's going to."
