New York Jets owner Woody Johnson may soon have a new title.

Johnson is under consideration for an ambassadorship to the United Kingdom under President-elect Donald Trump, according to a report from the New York Post's Page Six.

Johnson is under consideration for ambassador to the UK, multiple sources say. He was vice chairman of the Trump Victory Committee and hosted pricey fund-raisers in the Hamptons for donors including treasury secretary pick Steven Mnuchin, Carl Icahn and Anthony Scaramucci. He's also on Trump's presidential inaugural committee. (Under Obama, it's a role Anna Wintour reportedly coveted but did not land.)

Johnson is one of several NFL-connected people that donated money to Trump's campaign, along with Houston Texans owner Bob McNair, Tampa Bay Buccaneers co-owner Edward Glazer (who also donated to Hillary Clinton's campaign), and ex-Vikings owner Red McCombs. Among sports figures, only McNair ($254,600) donated more to the president-elect than Johnson's $100,000 contribution.

The current ambassador to the UK is Matthew Barzun, who was appointed by President Obama in 2013. If Johnson were to be nominated for the position, he would have to be confirmed by the Senate. If confirmed, he would not be the first NFL owner appointed to an ambassadorship: Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney served as the United States Ambassador to Ireland from 2009 to 2012.
