Malcolm Mitchell, the Patriots' fourth-round pick, suffered an unknown injury to his elbow
The ugly side of preseason football made an appearance Thursday night. Malcolm Mitchell, the Patriots' fourth-round rookie receiver, suffered a gruesome elbow injury in the second quarter.
After catching a pass from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on an intermediate comeback route down the right sideline, Mitchell turned upfield and tried to shake loose of a Saints defender. As he wiggled away, his reached out with his left arm to push off against the turf. Instead, his elbow bent in a way that elbows shouldn't bend.

After the game, the Boston Herald reported that Mitchel has been diagnosed with a dislocated elbow and may be able to return in four weeks, which would give him a chance of suiting up for the opener.
Recently, Mitchell impressed reporters with his output at practice. And, back in May, he won over some fans with his reported decision to skip the NFLPA Rookie Premiere to study his playbook. His productive first summer as a pro, however, has hit a speed bump on the image above.
