Russell Wilson won't attend the Seahawks' first organized team activity (OTA) on Tuesday but it has nothing to do with a new long-term deal. Danny O'Neill of 710 ESPN Seattle reports that Wilson will accompany new teammate Jimmy Graham to Florida where Graham will attend the funeral of Tamara Fox Meyerson, who died Friday in Miami at the age of 45. According to the obituary, Meyerson "loved and mentored Jimmy Graham as a son."

Wilson and Graham weren't the only players absent on Tuesday. Defensive end Cliff Avril was “tending to a family situation,” according to O'Neill, while Michael Bennett wants a new contract. Bennett, who signed a four-year, $28.5 million contract last offseason, explained why he wants to rework a deal that is 14 months old.

"People get mad when players ask for raises," he said last week, "… but they don’t understand a team’s longevity. The Seahawks are going to be around for as long as there is an NFL. But a player only has so much time."

As for Wilson's contract, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora wrote earlier this month that, "there isn't any reason to believe either side will significantly alter its evaluation of the situation to the degree necessary to strike a deal -- nothing is going to happen between now and training camp to alter the landscape."

And last week former NFL agent Joel Corry offered more on the topic in a piece for CBSSports.com.

Wilson and the Seahawks are reportedly at an impasse in contract negotiations. According to anonymous sources, the Seahawks have offered Wilson in the neighborhood of $80 million over four years. ...

Contract structure could be as big of an issue as the overall compensation for Wilson. Seattle contracts typically are structured where the guaranteed money consists of base salary guarantees and a signing bonus. ...

It may be necessary for the Seahawks to make structural concessions so Wilson is treated like quarterbacks with lucrative contracts. $40 million to $45 million is fully guaranteed at signing in top quarterback deals. These dynamics make Wilson playing out the final year of his four-year rookie contract for $1.542 million a distinct possibility. Wilson is the NFL's biggest bargain. He has made a little under $2.2 million in his three NFL seasons.

Whatever happens in the coming weeks, there's no fear of Wilson holding out.
