Reports: Three-time Pro Bowl DL Darnell Dockett cut by 49ers
Darnell Dockett is out in San Francisco after barely playing during the preseason.
The San Francisco 49ers cut three-time Pro Bowler Darnell Dockett on Friday, according to several reports.
Dockett came to San Francisco this offseason from the Arizona Cardinals, where he'd spent the first 11 seasons of his career. He missed all of last year with a torn ACL suffered a few weeks before the start of the season.
Dockett signed a two-year, $7.5 million deal with the 49ers back in March. Of that $7.5 million, $2 million was guaranteed, so Dockett will still get a nice chunk of change not to suit up for San Francisco in 2015.
A strong interior pass rusher throughout most of his career with Arizona, Dockett played only 16 snaps during the preseason (per tracking by Pro Football Focus) and was battling a rib injury before he was released. There has already been speculation about a potential return to Arizona for Dockett. The Cardinals lost free agent signing Corey Peters to a torn Achilles last month.
