Seahawks cut original Legion of Boom member Brandon Browner

Browner will not make the 53-man roster in his second go-round with Seattle

The Legion of Boom reunion is over. The Seattle Seahawks have cut cornerback Brandon Browner, an original member of the secondary group, who had returned to the team earlier this offseason.

Browner spent the 2011-2013 seasons with the Seahawks, first in a reserve role and then moving into the starting lineup. Along with Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, and Kam Chancellor, he was a member of the league's best secondary that helped lead Seattle to a Super Bowl XLVIII title.

The following offseason, he signed with the New England Patriots. His performance on an individual level suffered away from the rest of his LOB-mates, but the Patriots won a Super Bowl anyway (against the Seahawks). Still, the Pats moved on from Browner after just one season.

He caught on with the New Orleans Saints for the 2015 season, and he was arguably football's single most-damaging defensive player. He was called for more penalties during the 2015 than any player in the league since this statistic began tracking in 1999, per NFL.com, and played a major role in the Saints being one of the worst pass defenses in NFL history. The Saints, too, cut ties with Browner after one season.

The Seahawks brought him back into the fold back in April with the plan of making him into a cornerback/safety hybrid that spent most of his time covering tight ends and in the slot.

"We're going to play him at safety in base downs and then in nickel we are going to use him to match up at different spots playing inside," coach Pete Carroll said on 710 ESPN Seattle at the time. "So we may be able to develop a really unique role for him. We have seen him play, back to his New England days they used him quite a bit inside and he really matched up on tight ends and slot receivers and things like that that he matched up well, and we are going to see how that develops."
