Shortly after the Rams were embarrassed at home by the Falcons 42-14 on Sunday, here's how second-year running back Todd Gurley described Los Angeles' offensive game plan: "It looked like a middle school offense out there."

Frustrations aside, Gurley isn't wrong; the Rams rank dead last in offensive efficiency, according to Football Outsiders' metrics. Put another way: They're more inept than the Browns, Jets and Texans.

And perhaps that reality, along with Gurley's frank assessment, had something to do with the Rams finally, mercifully, firing coach Jeff Fisher after four-plus seasons of mostly terrible football. Fisher leaves the team with a 31-45-1 record, and since he was hired in 2012, the Rams have never had a winning record.

Despite the outward struggles, Fisher had his supporters in the locker room including, it sounds like, Gurley.

"It was tough," Gurley told reporters about Fisher's dismissal, via PFT. "It was tough on a lot of guys. Coach Fisher, he did a great job. He brought everybody in. We loved him as a coach. We know a lot of other people didn't. But, at the end of the day, we knew what he did for us. He brought us in. He's the one who drafted me when nobody else believed in me. It definitely hit us hard, for sure."

To be clear: A lot of people believed in Gurley, just not as the 10th overall pick. Either way, Fisher is now looking for work and Gurley was asked if he felt his "middle school" remarks had anything to do with it.

"I didn't really look at it that way," he said. "I didn't care. Just speaking my mind, and speaking the truth about how we looked. ... It definitely should be taken to heart [given] the way we played. Just way too many turnovers, way too many penalties and we just can't be doing that week after week."

Fisher released a statement Tuesday thanking the Rams' ownership and staff, before turning his attention to the players.

"I especially want to thank all of the players," he said. "They are a great group of men that I respect, and that I will greatly miss. My hope is that each one of the players experience great success in the future."
