Jeff Wilson: Back to practice squad
Wilson reverted to the Dolphins' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report.
Wilson was elevated to the Dolphins' active roster for a second straight week but saw minimal work on special teams during Sunday's 33-27 loss to the Patriots. The veteran running back is eligible to be elevated from the practice squad one more time, at which point the Dolphins would have to sign Wilson to the active roster in order for him to be available for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old will now join the Dolphins' active roster for the second consecutive week, providing extra depth at running back due to Jaylen Wright (knee) likely being out again in the Week 2 matchup against the Patriots. Wilson played just one offensive snap in Miami's Week 1 loss, so he's likely to play a depth role in the team's backfield once again Sunday.

Wilson was elevated to the active roster to provide depth in the backfield for Week 1 against the Colts after Jaylen Wright (knee) was ruled out, but the former played just two snaps on offense without showing up on the box score otherwise. Wilson is primed for the No. 3 role in Miami's backfield Week 1 behind De'Von Achane and Ollie Gordon, a gig he could be asked to handle as long as Jaylen Wright (knee) remains sidelined. The 29-year-old Wilson suited up for 19 regular-season games with the Dolphins in 2023 and 2024.

Wilson is familiar with coach Mike McDaniel's rushing scheme and gives the Dolphins some depth at running back, with De'Von Achane (calf) injured but expected to be ready for Week 1 but Jaylen Wright (leg) a candidate to miss a bit of time early in the year. If Miami's backfield health doesn't improve in time to face off against the Colts in Week 1, it's possible Wilson gets elevated from the practice squad, though if Achane is healthy Wilson would figure to work, at best, in a reserve No. 3 capacity behind Ollie Gordon.

The 49ers released Wilson on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Wilson was signed earlier this month while the Niners were dealing with backfield injuries and before the team traded for Brian Robinson. With Robinson now in the fold behind Christian McCaffrey alongside a healthy Isaac Guerendo, Wilson is no longer needed. The 29-year-old appeared in nine regular-season games with Miami last season, rushing 16 times for 57 yards.

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Reuniting with Niners
The 49ers signed Wilson to a contract Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Wilson will join a Niners backfield depleted with injuries to Isaac Guerrendo (shoulder), Jordan James (finger) and Ameer Abdullah (ribs). Wilson started his NFL career with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2018 before being traded to the Dolphins in November 2022. He appeared in nine regular-season games for Miami in 2024 and posted 16 carries for 57 yards and three catches on as many targets for 19 yards. Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders will be Wilson's first opportunity to audition for a spot on San Francisco's 53-man roster.
