49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Keeping starting job
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kaepernick will remain the 49ers' starting quarterback this Sunday against the Buccaneers.

Kaepernick made his first start of the season in Sunday's loss to the Bills, completing 13 of 29 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. He also ran eight times for 66 yards, but led San Francisco's offense to just 16 points. However, without a more attractive alternative considering Blaine Gabbert's struggles before him, Kaepernick will maintain the 49ers' starting gig versus Tampa Bay this Sunday, when he'll hope another week at the helm results in an improved performance.

49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Struggles in 2016 debut Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kaepernick got the start under center against the Bills on Sunday, completing 13 of 29 pass attempts for 187 yards and a touchdown. He added 66 yards on eight rush attempts in the 45-16 loss.

Offseason trade rumors, health concerns, contract reconstruction and a preseason social protest made Kaepernick one of the most talked about quarterbacks this season despite not throwing a regular season pass. All of that is in the past now that he has officially made his first start of the 2016 campaign. The results weren't pretty, as Kaepernick was just as ineffective as Blaine Gabbert running the San Francisco offense. He did show some early promise, dialing up Torrey Smith for a 51-yard touchdown in the first half and exhibiting his athleticism on several designed and improvised scrambles. But when the 49ers' porous defense began giving up chunks of points in the second half, he wasn't able to make the necessary throws to keep his team in the game. From a fantasy perspective, Kaepernick will have value due to his ability to run the ball effectively, but his ceiling won't be very high if he is completing less than 50 percent of his passes.

49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Agrees to restructured contract
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

The 49ers and Kaepernick agreed to a restructured contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The development comes on the heels of head coach Chip Kelly naming Kaepernick as the 49ers' starting quarterback moving forward. Although the final four years of his original deal have been wiped away, Kaepernick now has a player option for the 2017 season that allows him to void the contract before the league year begins in March and become an unrestricted free agent. In the interim, he'll attempt to channel the success he found under Jim Harbaugh, but Kaepernick's preseason returns under Kelly equated to 13 of 24 passing for 117 yards and eight rushes for 56 yards.

49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Will start Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kaepernick will start at quarterback Sunday against the Bills, CSN's Matt Maiocco reports.

Kaepernick will move into the starting lineup in place of Blaine Gabbert, who has struggled to get much going since the 49ers' decisive Week 1 victory over the Rams. Kaepernick has not played since Nov. 8 of last year, but he will get his first shot to show what he can do in Chip Kelly's offense in Week 6.

49ers' Colin Kaepernick: Status not impacted by contract
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Kaepernick's contract status has no impact on whether he starts or not, according to coach Chip Kelly, Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports.

Kaepernick is reportedly in the midst of negotiations to restructure his contract and remove a $14.5 million injury guarantee for next year, which would presumably make the 49ers more comfortable with playing him this season. While coach Kelly denies Kaepernick's current contract is the reason he's only played three snaps this season, instead citing his continued rehabilitation from three recent surgeries and Blaine Gabbert's superior practice performance, he also says his staff hasn't made a decision on San Francisco's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bills. That suggests Gabbert, who's been abysmal during the 49ers' ongoing four-game losing streak, no longer has a clear grasp on the job, setting up Kaepernick to potentially reclaim his post. As a result, Kelly's decision on his top signal-caller should certainly be worthwhile to monitor this week, regardless of the speculation surrounding his thought process.
