Colin Kaepernick describes 2013 foot injury
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick dealt with a significant foot injury last season that severely curtailed his running, according to the Sacramento Bee. In a Week 2 loss in Seattle, Kaepernick suffered a chipped bone on his forefoot and a ruptured capsule in the ball of his foot.

Kaepernick ran nine times for 87 yards against the Seahawks, then did not top 20 rushing yards again until Week 7. Coach Jim Harbaugh said the team did not call as many read-option plays because "we didn't want to see Colin get hit 12 times a game."

Kaepernick said the injury "was something that was always there. Never spoke about it, never said anything about it because you're a football player, you play through pain. Unless you're being carted off, you should be on the field. If it's something you can play through, that's what you do."

Colin Kaepernick leads two unproductive drives
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was unable to lead a scoring drive on two first-half possessions against the Broncos. The first drive ended in a missed 55-yard field goal.

Kaepernick completed 5 of 9 passes for 39 yards. He made one terrible throw off a bootleg, but also wasn't helped by his receivers. No. 1 wideout Michael Crabtree could not hang on to a slant pass on the first play from scrimmage, and Brandon Lloyd had a potential touchdown go off his fingertips.

Colin Kaepernick lets running game do the work
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to a field goal on the opening drive of Thursday's preseason opener against the Ravens, but he didn't have to do much. Kaepernick dropped back to pass twice, with one incompletion wiped out by a roughing-the-passer flag.

He completed the other throw for 17 yards to tight end Vance McDonald. San Francisco ran five times on the drive, showcasing rookie Carlos Hyde.

Kaepernick plays his next preseason game on Sunday, Aug. 17 against the Broncos.

Colin Kaepernick says 49ers offense 'can do more'
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is excited about the offense this year with all his weapons at receiver.

He said in an interview with the media Thursday that having Steve Johnson, Brandon Lloyd and Bruce Ellington to go with Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Vernon Davis and Quinton Patton should open up the passing game.

"I think it gives us an opportunity as an offense to do a lot more," Kaepernick said.

When asked if he would you like to see the offense start tilting more toward the passing game, Kaepernick said: "I want to see this offense do whatever it has to do to win games. That’s really what’s most important, but I’m always good to throw a few more balls."

He added that the offense has the "capability" to become an elite, prolific passing attack.
