Joe Flacco (torn ACL) recently began running and throwing short passes, ESPN reports.
Flacco also said he's been able to put weight on his left knee, even doing squats in the weight room. He hopes to be ready for the start of training camp, and while that may be a bit optimistic, the rapid progress bodes well for his Week 1 availability. With Steve Smith (Achilles), Breshad Perriman (knee) and Crockett Gillmore (shoulder) also recovering from major injuries, the entire Baltimore passing game will require close monitoring in the coming months. The team did sign a pair of veteran reinforcements in the form of Mike Wallace and Ben Watson.
Joe Flacco relayed Saturday that the health of his left knee is improving by the week, Garrett Downing of the Baltimore Ravens ' official site reports. He further noted, "To be honest with you, I believe [I'm on track for training camp], but it's not like I've been told a timeline or anything like that. I can't really say one way or another. I can tell each week that by the end of the week I'm feeling sore and I'm hurting, and by the next Monday I'm feeling better than I did last Monday."
At the NFL owners meetings last month, head coach John Harbaugh stated his belief that Flacco is on track to be healthy by the start of training camp, which is a far-fetched opinion considering surgery was performed to repair a torn ACL in the quarterback's left knee on Dec. 8. In reality, Flacco is in danger of missing time at the outset of the upcoming campaign, after logging the first DNPs of his career following the season-ending injury. When healthy, though, he'll have some new toys to play with after the free-agent additions of Mike Wallace and Ben Watson.
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Joe Flacco (knee) is on track to be ready for training camp, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Despite Harbaugh's optimism, Flacco will likely be absent or limited for the start of training camp, having undergone surgery Dec. 8 to repair a torn ACL. Teammates Steve Smith (Achilles), Breshad Perriman (knee) and Crockett Gillmore (shoulder) are also recovering from significant injuries, but the Ravens are hopeful to have everyone available by Week 1.
The extension will keep Flacco in purple and black through the 2021 season, and potentially the end of his career. The Delaware product remains in recovery from a torn ACL, and has nine months from the surgery date (Dec. 8) to be ready for Week 1 of the 2016 campaign. When healthy, Flacco remains a middling fantasy quarterback, with two of the team's expected top receiving options in Steve Smith (Achilles) and Breshad Perriman (knee) returning from major injuries as well. The Ravens may also supplement their receiving options in the NFL Draft, but a lot of question marks surround the team's passing game heading into 2016.
Joe Flacco (torn ACL) said his recovery is going well so far, the Baltimore Sun reports.
The Baltimore Ravens tentatively expect Flacco to be ready by Week 1, and the quarterback recently echoed that sentiment in an interview with Baltimore's WBAL Radio. He tore his ACL on Nov. 22 and had surgery Dec. 8, giving him nine months to recover before the start of the 2016 season. It remains to be seen what kind of talent he'll be surrounded by, as Steve Smith (Achilles) and 2015 first-round draft pick Breshad Perriman (knee) are working their way back from serious injuries of their own. The Ravens also have 2015 breakout performer Kamer Aiken, along with a promising group of tight ends, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the team add more skill-position talent in the draft. Although a potential contract renegotiation might lead to some offseason headlines, Flacco is certain to be back with the team in 2016. Any negotiating will just be a matter of deferring part of his cap hit to 2017 and 2018.
