Knile Davis will be inactive for Sunday's game against Denver with Spencer Ware used as Charcandrick West's backup, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
It sounds like Davis will be a healthy scratch, but we'll have to wait for inactives to be announced before game time to be sure. Davis has just 12 carries combined over the last four games, so this may not be a huge surprise.
Knile Davis rushed four times for nine yards during Sunday's 45-10 win over the Lions in London.
Charcandrick West continues to dominate the touches for the Kansas City Chiefs , as he rushed 20 times for 97 yards and a touchdown while adding 25 receiving yards on four receptions. Davis' fantasy value is very limited as long as West is healthy.
Charcandrick West dominated the backfield touches, rushing 22 times for 110 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes on five targets for 19 receiving yards. The
Knile Davis carried the ball for 13 yards on five carries and snagged a 12-yard pass in Sunday's loss to Minnesota.
Davis took a backseat to second-year back Charcandrick West in Jamaal Charles' first game out following a season-ending knee injury. Davis was Charles' primary backup in 2013 and 2014 and has managed to score 12 total touchdowns in a little over two seasons. His career yards-per-rush averaged of 3.39 may be contributing to West's first dibs at opportunities. The backfield situation in Kansas City will be one to monitor given their ball-control tendencies and it will be intersting to see whether Davis'experience and West's late-game fumble put Davis in the driver's seat come Week 7 against Pittsburgh.
The Kansas City Chiefs ' posted depth chart, which no longer includes Jamaal Charles, still lists Knile Davis ahead of Charcandrick West.
Mind you, this past Sunday against the Bears, West finished the day with 31 yards on seven carries, while Davis carried the ball just twice for two yards. Still, as the Chiefs move on without Charles, who is now on IR, a committee approach utilizing both Davis and West figures to be the team's strategy going forward, beginning Sunday against the Vikings, according to NFL.com. At 5-foot-10, 227 pounds, Davis -- who has had some success filling in for Charles in the past -- is a "good one to go downhill with," per coach Andy Reid. Meanwhile, Reid notes that the 5-foot-10, 205-pound West and Charles are "closer together (skill set-wise) than what Knile is as far as the quick moves." The bottom line here is that the Chiefs could well elect to employ Davis and West as a one-two backfield punch in the absence of Charles, which enhances the fantasy upside of both backs, though it may take a game or two until a tangible pecking order is established on that front.
