Davis had two carries for one yard in Thursday's victory over the Bears.
Davis was a popular waiver-wire target this week with the Packers banged up at the running back position, but he was only able to practice once with his new team prior to Thursday's contest, and did not even enter the game until the fourth quarter. Davis will have some time to get up to speed before the Packers' next game in Week 8 and could see more work, but the team had ample success with Ty Montgomery and others running the ball Thursday, so it seems like a stretch to expect Davis to jump into a prominent role in the backfield even when he does become more familiar with the playbook.
Tuesday dawned with news of Davis' trade to the Packers, who seemingly required a running back to round out the backfield with Eddie Lacy dealing with a sore ankle and James Starks (knee) out for four weeks. The Packers have proceeded to rule Lacy out for Week 7, leaving Davis as the presumptive favorite to lead the rushing attack Thursday. Davis may not handle the entire workload, though, as wide receivers Ty Montgomery and Randall Cobb have been utilized as ball carriers in the past, fullback Aaron Ripkowski could get in on the act, and RB Don Jackson may be promoted from the practice squad.
The Chiefs traded
The Packers were desperate to add depth at running back with Eddie Lacy sustaining an ankle injury in their Week 6 loss to the Cowboys and James Starks (knee) ruled out for the next four weeks, so the addition of Davis certainly fulfills a need. As the No. 4 running back in Kansas City, Davis had been a healthy inactive the last few weeks following the return of Jamaal Charles. That made him an expendable piece for the Chiefs, who will presumably receive a late-round pick in return for the running back. Given that the Packers have a quick turnaround with their next game coming Thursday against the Bears, it's unlikely that Davis will be a major part of the game plan while he's still learning his new team's playbook. As such, wideout Ty Montgomery could end up seeing some involvement out of the backfield as the de facto backup to Lacy, who is listed as questionable for Thursday.
