Wilcox agreed to the terms of a deal with the Buccanneers on Saturday.
Wilcox should join the starting strong safety mix with the Buccaneers in 2017 after racking up 49 tackles (37 solo) and one interception with the Cowboys last season. His competition at the spot comes in the form of Chris Conte and Keith Tandy.
Wilcox, an unrestricted free agent, visited with the Bucs on Friday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
There was no deal as of Friday evening, but the Bucs presumably retain a strong interest in the 26-year-old safety with Bradley McDougald now an unrestricted free agent in his own right. The team is keeping its options open with respect to last year's starting strong safety, but Wilcox serves as a solid fallback plan. The Georgia Southern product racked up 214 tackles (158 solo), 15 passes defensed, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over 58 games with the Cowboys from 2013-16.
Wilcox (thigh) is active for Monday's matchup with the Lions, Todd Archer of ESPN reports.
Wilcox practiced in full all week and was expected to return after sitting out the team's past three games. He'll likely return to his role as a depth option at safety behind starters Barry Church and Byron Jones.
Wilcox missed the past three games with a thigh issue, but appears extremely close to making a return. In fact, his full participation Thursday suggests he should be ready to go come Monday night's showdown with Detroit.
Wilcox was able to practice in a limited fashion during the week but still will miss his third consecutive game. Barry Church and Jeff Heath will fill in for Wilcox once again.
