Laquon Treadwell, Minnesota's 2016 first-round draft pick, has been working with the second team. Johnson has likely been working with the first team just because the
With Stefon Diggs likely to enter training camp as the No. 1 receiver and Jarius Wright expected to retain the slot receive role, Johnson may continue to be relegated in the offense if Treadwell wins the No. 2 receiver role. Johnson emerged in the second half of the 2014 campaign, accruing 25 receptions on 46 targets for 415 yards and two touchdowns across the final seven games, but struggled last season with injuries, was phased out of the offense, and went without a catch after Week 9. The drafting of Treadwell will likely push Johnson towards a minimal role again in 2016.
Charles Johnson sustained a broken rib in Week 3 of the 2015 season and was slowly but surely phased out of the Minnesota Vikings ' offense, Ben Goessling of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson emerged in the second half of the 2014 campaign, accruing 25 receptions (on 46 targets) for 415 yards and two touchdowns across the final seven games. With few known wideouts outside of Mike Wallace for Teddy Bridgewater to utilize in advance of last season, Johnson was touted as a breakout candidate, but the aforementioned injury forced two DNPs, and the Vikings' bye week didn't allow another appearance until Week 7. The extended absence gave rookie Stefon Diggs an opportunity to break out, though, and Johnson ultimately recorded no catches after Week 9. Although Wallace has taken his talents to Baltimore, Johnson will have to contend with Diggs, Jarius Wright, and any potential additions in the NFL Draft.
Charles Johnson (ankle) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Giants.
Johnson turned in full practices all week, but his status on the fringe of the Minnesota Vikings ' receiving corps will keep him in street clothes in Week 16. Instead, Teddy Bridgewater will rely upon Mike Wallace, Stefon Diggs, and Jarius Wright to support the passing attack.
Charles Johnson (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears.
A mid-week addition to the injury report, Johnson wouldn't necessarily have a role even if he were healthy. He didn't play any offensive snaps in a Week 14 loss to the Cardinals, marking the fifth straight game in which he logged fewer than 20 snaps.
