Mathis Kiwanuka helps seal Giants' third straight win
by Michael Hurcomb |

Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka had a big defensive play during a 24-20 win Week 10 vs. Oakland. Kiwanuka had a sack-forced fumble on Oakland's final possession with 3:28 remaining, which allowed the Giants to run out the clock and win a third straight game.

Kiwanuka has recorded a sack in two straight games and tied a season-high with four tackles (two solo) Sunday.

Giants defense lack standout performers Week 3
by Michael Hurcomb |

The Giants defense didn't have a strong showing in a 38-0 loss Week 3 at Carolina, which meant it didn't have many individual standout performers on defense.

Safety Ryan Mundy had a team-high nine tackles (five solo). Defensive tackle Linval Joseph (five solo) and linebacker Mark Herzlich (four solo) both finished with eight tackles. Cornerback Prince Amukamara had six tackles (four solo) and one pass defense.

The Giants managed only one sack from Mathias Kiwanuka, who had four solo tackles. Defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul had five solo tackles (one tackle for loss).

Cornerback Aaron Ross, who started for the injured Corey Webster, had the team's lone interception.

Mathias Kiwanuka moves to DE
by Chris Towers |

The Giants are converting Mathias Kiwanuka from linebacker to defensive end this offseason as their once deep corps of DEs has taken some hits. Jason Pierre-Paul could be out for three months recovering from back surgery, which creates another need for Kiwanuka at DE.

"Having another man down means that we've all got to step up, and I’m ready to do the job," Kiwanuka told Thursday.

Kiwanuka was a first-round pick in 2006 as a defensive end but made the transition to linebacker in 2009. The Giants have a need on the line with Pierre-Paul's injury and Osi Umenyiora's departure as a free agent.

Kiwi eyeing move to D-line?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer
Giants defensive end Justin Tuck said teammate Mathias Kiwanuka has his heart set of going back to the D-line after spending a season as the team's strong-side linebacker, according to the New York Daily News. General manager Jerry Reese added he sees Kiwanuka as more of a lineman than a linebacker. "I see him as still kind of a joker type player for us. But from my view I think he will probably play more on the defensive line more than he played at linebacker in the past; just from my view," Reese said. "But that is coach Coughlin’s call. You guys can talk to him about that."
