Belichick: Losing Darrelle Revis 'not a big story' to Patriots
by Shawn Krest |

The Patriots lost cornerback Darrelle Revis to the division rival Jets, but Bill Belichick isn't concerned.

Meeting the media at the NFL Owners Meetings, Belichick said, "That’s NFL free agency ... Players leave teams and go to teams in free agency every year. That’s not a big story." Per ESPN's Mike Reiss

Jets coach Todd Bowles has versatile plans for Darrelle Revis
by Jason Butt |

Jets coach Todd Bowles' secondary will be in good hands with cornerback Darrelle Revis this coming season.

With Revis in the fold, Bowles knows he has the freedom to mix and match various coverages on a game-to-game basis. The Patriots were able to do that with Revis and Brandon Browner this past season.

When asked about Revis' role at the owners meetings, Bowles said Revis will be asked to provide multiple roles on defense.

"Some games he'll be left [corner] and right [corner]," Bowles said, via the New York Daily News. "Some games he'll match up [vs. the best WR]."

Report: NFL investigated Jets over pursuit of Darrelle Revis
by Michael Hurcomb |

The Jets were investigated days before agreeing to a five-year, $70 million contract with cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to the New York Daily News.

The NFL sent an investigator to the Jets' facility in Florham Park, N.J., on March 8 -- which was during the three-day window teams had to negotiate prior to the start of free agency -- to interrogate general manager Mike Maccagnan and front office personnel about the pursuit of Revis, according to sources. Owner Woody Johnson was not interviewed.

Late last year, the Patriots levied a tampering charge against their AFC East foe after Johnson said Dec. 29 that he’d “love for Darrelle to come back."

Johnson’s comments in December violated the NFL Anti-Tampering policy, but it appears the allure of returning to New York and the Jets' financial resources were the determining factors in Revis' decision. The Patriots were out of the Revis sweepstakes a full day before the Jets agreed to terms with the Pro Bowl cornerback, according to sources.

“Champ (Bailey) was able to play at a very high level well into his 30s,” Maccagnan said in a conference call Thursday. “I kind of view Darrelle in the same (way). He’s playing at a very high level. We thought he could potentially be able to play at a high level for a number of years going forward, so we thought it was worth the financial investment.”

Agent: Cornerback Darrelle Revis signing with the Jets
by Brandon Wise |

Cornerback Darrelle Revis is heading back to the Jets, according to his agent. Revis, who did not have his team option for 2015 picked up by the Patriots, became a free agent Tuesday and was considering multiple offers.

Revis spent his first six seasons in New York, totaling 19 interceptions. He spent 2013 with the Buccaneers before signing with the Patriots last offseason. He was looking to sign for $40 million, but contract details were not made available, according to NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

The deal is for five years and worth $70 million with $39 million fully guaranteed, according La Canfora. Revis will earn $48 million in the first three years of the deal.

Report: Steelers, Bills check in on CB Darrelle Revis
by Igor Mello |

The Steelers have inquired Tuesday on free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. However, an agreement with Revis appears to be unlikely at the moment, since Pittsburgh has just over $2 million in cap space this offseason, per the report.

The Bills have also checked in on Revis, per Schefter.

Revis signed a two-year, $32 million contract with the Patriots last offseason, but New England declined a $20 million team option on Monday, making him a free agent and open to negotiate with any team in the league. He is seeking three year deal in the neighborhood of $40 million guaranteed, per Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. The Patriots and Jets are believed to be the main contenders for Revis, who won a Super Bowl with New England in February.
