Avril signed a four-year extension with Seattle in December and will earn $7 million in 2018 with a signing bonus of $500,000 and a roster bonus of $500,000 if he is still on the team.
Avril has spent the last two seasons with the Seahawks, totaling 43 tackles and 13 sacks in 31 games.
Avril injured himself in the third quarter, and was initially ruled as questionable to return. He was taken back to the locker room for further evaluation, and it was determined he was dealing with a concussion. He will not return to the contest.
Avril appeared to injure himself on the Seahawks second interception of the contest. He was tended to by trainers on the field. Avril was escorted to the locker room in order to be evaluated for a concussion. He's considered questionable to return.
Avril was set to become a free agent at the end of the season before signing an extension. Since joining the Seahawks in 2013, the 28-year-old pass-rusher totaled 40 tackles, 12 1/2 sacks and six forced fumbles over 29 games.
"These guys have rushed really hard and been very aggressive," Carroll said of his starting defensive ends, per ESPN. "I’ve looked at every one of their rushes and situations and I think we’re going to count on those guys to continue to do what they’re doing and try to help around them."
Carroll said the team will try to make changes to improve the pass rush.
"We’ve got to get Mike active inside and get him to be the disruptor that he can be," Carroll said, hinting they might use Bennett on more snaps as a defensive tackle. "We need to help him with some stuff there, some stuff scheme-wise we’ll tweak here and there. Those guys are bringing it. In my mind it’s going to happen and we’ll just keep working until it does because we know it’s there."
