Eagles QB Mark Sanchez expects to compete for starting job
by Marty Gitlin |

Despite the assumption of many that the Eagles traded for quarterback Sam Bradford to make him the automatic starter, fellow signal-caller Mark Sanchez doesn't perceive the situation the same way.

Sanchez believes there will be an open competition in camp, which is why he signed a two-year deal worth $9 million to return to Philadelphia.

"Absolutely," he told "That's the way I understand it. ... Just talking with coach (Chip) Kelly and knowing I'm comng with the opportunity to compete for the starting job. That was important to me."

Sanchez completed 64 percent of his passes for 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions for the Eagles a year ago.

Report: Browns could acquire Sam Bradford from Eagles before the draft
by Igor Mello |

The Browns believe they have a good chance to trade for Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford before the start of Thursday's NFL Draft, a source told Peter King of Sports Illustrated on Wednesday.

Philadelphia acquired Bradford and a 2015 fifth-round pick from the Rams in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles, a 2015 fourth-round pick and a 2016 second-round pick back in March. Bradford missed all of last season due to his second torn ACL in as many years.

St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher confirmed to reporters after the deal that the Browns tried to trade for Bradford before the Rams and Eagles agreed to a trade.

Soon after the trade was completed, Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly dispelled the notion that he will trade up for Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, reiterating that Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez are his quarterbacks for 2015.

"We didn't bring Sam in here to be a [trading] chip," Kelly said back in March.

The Eagles and the Titans are expected to deliberate at some point before the draft on Thursday. If Kelly sends Bradford to Cleveland, then all signs would point toward the Eagles making a run to acquire the No. 2 overall pick of the draft for Mariota.

A team has traded up for a quarterback in Round 1 in 11 of the past 12 drafts, per Chris Sprow of ESPN.

Mark Sanchez: Eagles said Tim Tebow was just a camp arm
by Shawn Krest |

Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez said he wasn't concerned that the team signed Tim Tebow, because the Eagles told him Tebow was just there to throw in camp.

"We needed another guy to throw while Sam's (Bradford) still recovering. So that's the reason (for the signing), at least as explained to me," Sanchez said, per CSN Philadelphia

The Eagles signed Tebow on Monday. He hasn't played in the NFL since getting cut by the Patriots at the end of training camp prior to the 2013 season. He spent last year as a television analyst for the SEC Network.

Tebow and Sanchez were teammates on the Jets in 2012. Tebow's presence as a back-up created a quarterback controversy among fans and media that last ed throughout the season.

Chip Kelly: Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez are my QBs for 2015
by Igor Mello |

Eagles coach Chip Kelly dispelled the notion that he will trade up for Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, reiterating that Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez are his quarterbacks for 2015, per the team's official website.

Kelly also revealed that "here has been no talk with Bradford about a contract extension at this time."

Bradford was shipped from St. Louis to Philadelphia on Tuesday, just after the start of free agency. He missed all of last season after tearing his ACL in the preseason, and he's scheduled to make $13 million in 2015 -- the final year of his contract.

Report: Mark Sanchez returning to Eagles on 2-year deal
by Jason Butt |

Quarterback Mark Sanchez will return to the Eagles on a two-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Sanchez's deal will be worth a total of $16 million with $5.5 million guaranteed.
