Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Listed as questionable with knee issue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Though Charles is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, coach Andy Reid downplayed the running back's knee issue Friday, BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com reports. "Jamaal was limited today," Reid noted Friday, while adding that the running back's knee "had a little bit of swelling in it (on Thursday) and we were just taking it down for today. We think everything will be alright as we go."

While Reid's words offer encouragement that Charles could give it a go in Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, that shouldn't be considered a lock. Moreover, with a knee that is still acting up, even if Charles does play this week it's hard to imagine him overtaking fellow RB Spencer Ware in the snaps/carries department in Week 7.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Dealing with knee swelling
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles, who reportedly experienced some knee swelling, was limited at Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, BJ Kissel of Chiefs.com reports.

This nugget suggests that Charles is not a lock to play this weekend, and if he is limited as at all Sunday or sits out the contest, Spencer Ware would presumably be in line for a big workload in Week 7, with Charcandrick West also on hand in a complementary role.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Still not ready for full workload
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Head coach Andy Reid said Charles still isn't ready for an every-down role, the Kansas City Star reports.

Charles had a key role in Sunday's 26-10 win over Oakland, taking nine carries for 33 yards and a touchdown, with another 14 yards on two receptions. Spencer Ware still had a 26-11 advantage in touches and a 40-15 lead in snaps, finishing with 163 scrimmage yards and a touchdown of his own. Given that Ware has produced 5.3 yards per carry while proving more than capable as a receiver, Charles will likely have to share the backfield even when/if he's considered ready for a full workload. Charles often split snaps and touches early in his career, but he served as one of the NFL's few three-down workhorses the past three seasons, often logging more than 80 percent of the snaps in a game. While his workload should increase as the season progresses, a return to the 2013-15 level is unlikely.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Scores first touchdown of 2016
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown on nine carries and added 14 yards receiving on two receptions in Sunday's win over Oakland.

Charles slashed to the left and cut up field for a four-yard touchdown in the second quarter for his first score since Week 3 of 2015. Charles' workload expanded greatly from Week 5, two touches to 11 touches, but he still has a long way to go to near Spencer Ware - who had a career-best 131 rushing yards on Sunday. Given the fact that Ware's five years Charles' junior and has a longer-term, cheaper contract in the years ahead, there may be limited motivation to hand Charles back the starting job provided Ware continues to perform. Charles is worth a pickup, but don't assume that he'll return to his previous dominance.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Poised for more work in Week 6
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Charles (knee) is slated Wednesday to be a full practice participant for the first time this season, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.

Meanwhile, the report reiterates that the Chiefs -- who are coming off their bye week -- plan to use Charles more Sunday against the Raiders than they did in his season debut against the Steelers on Oct. 2. With that in mind, coach Andy Reid noted "as long as there are no setbacks, (Charles will) probably do a little bit more" this week. For his part, Charles seems prepared to see an expanded workload in Week 6, relaying Wednesday that he feels as fast as he did before his latest serious knee injury, while adding that the "training wheels" are coming off. Fellow RB Spencer Ware is coming off a strong game (13 carries for 82 yards) in Week 4, however, so while we do expect Charles (who saw just two carries in the contest) to see more work Sunday, some form of a time-share still figures to remain in play this weekend.
