Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles wants to play another six years
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Jamaal Charles is 29 but hasn't showed any signs of slowing down.

In his battle to prove that you can hit the 30-year mark in age and still be a capable running back in the NFL, Charles said it's his goal to continue playing this game for an additional half-decade.

“I want to play another six years so, my form is to keep on taking my diet," Charles said, via the Chiefs' official team site. "I’m seeing guys at 37 or 38 still playing football in the trenches and that’s somewhere where you don’t want to play. So I just want to change the game with the running backs. I want this to last longer and then when I retire, I’ll be happy with where I end my career at.”

Charles ran for 1,033 yards and nine touchdowns while going for 291 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles says he wants to play six more seasons
by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles is gearing up for his eight season in the NFL and he knows the pessimistic perception on the career length for running backs, reports the team's official website.

"The game has changed," Charles said. "They've got all kinds of technology now, all kinds of medicine people have come up with to stay healthy. At the end of the day, an ACL you couldn't play [with], it was the end of a career."

Charles hopes by maintaining his body, avoiding big hits and not trying to run over people, the subtle changes will provide longevity to his career.

Chiefs RB Charles seeking to stay healthy, play six more years
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Chiefs standout running back Jamaal Charles told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that he plans to retire at the age of 35 after six more seasons on the field.

Charles, who has played seven years in the NFL, will likely need to avoid the injuries he sustained in 2014 to reach that goal. Though he exceeded 1,000 yards rushing again and averaged an impressive 5.0 YPC, he admitted that a variety of ailments made it difficult on him. But he believes his mindset during games will keep him healthy.

"I'm definitely not going to take as many big hits as I did last year," he said. "I took the biggest hits last year. Normally, I try to get out of bounds or get down. I'm never g9ing to try to take anybody on, be a tough guy.

"I'm going to think about my career, how I can help my team win. I'm not going to try to go out there and prove a point."

Chiefs RB Charles admits to feeling frustrated in 2014
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Superstar running back Jamaal Charles didn't perform to his lofty standards for the Chiefs in 2014, but he feels that the blame can be placed squarely on injuries.

So when Charles told ESPN that his "body has healed up" and that he "feels good," it could be bad news for NFL defenses in 2015.

"I was frustrated more last season as I've ever been because of all those injuries," Charles said. "I was frustrated because I didn't feel my body was right the whole season. But I battled through that time. That's all I could do. I felt like I was in a fight and I had to respond. I had 12 weeks to finish the season and if felt to me like I had 12 rounds to go."

Charles suffered through several physical problems last year, including issues with his ankle, foot, back, shoulder, knee and hamstring. Yet despite a lack of practice time and being listed on the injury report for nine of 16 games, he still averaged 5.0 YPC, exceeded 1,000 yards rushing for the fifth time in six seasons and scored nine touchdowns.
