Chiefs' Jamaal Charles admits he was a little shaken up by hard hit
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles was involved in a violent collision with Chargers cornerback Brandon Flowers while scoring a touchdown during Sunday's game. Both players were sent to the turf, but Flowers left with a concussion and Charles stayed in the game.

Though, Charles admitted during a radio interview with ESPN that maybe he was dealing with symptoms of a concussion.

"It definitely hurt," Charles said, per ProFootballTalk.com. "It’s like, I woke up -- I mean, like, a couple plays later I was seeing light bulbs, like, light bulbs around my eyes, and I was trying to catch them. But I was in the game so I was like, ‘Alright, let’s get the ball and run again.'"

Charles added he tried to avoid going through the league's concussion protocol. Charles left a Chiefs' playoff game in January due to a concussion.

"I didn’t have a concussion, but it definitely was a hit that shocked me," he said. "But I don’t think I had to go through the concussion protocols and all that. I didn’t want to go through that again because of what happened in the playoffs. I was definitely fine, I think I came out pretty good."

Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder told reporters Wednesday Charles was checked during Sunday's game for a concussion, and he passed baseline and impact tests. He added Charles passed multiple concussion tests Tuesday and has been cleared to practice Wednesday. Though, he added the team will continue to monitor his status.

Jamaal Charles totals 107 yards, scores TD in Chiefs' Week 7 win
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles rushed for 95 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown while adding two catches for 12 yards in his team's 23-20 win over the Chargers in Week 7.

Charles took a handoff on a sweep to the right side of the formation in the second quarter and made a great decision to cut back towards the middle of the field en route to a 16-yard touchdown. He was hammered as he crossed the goal line by cornerback Brandon Flowers, but the running back showed no aftereffects following the big hit.

The 95 rushing yards marked a season high, and Charles is up to 290 rushing yards, 55 receiving yards and four total touchdowns, with most of the damage coming in his last three games. He also passed Priest Holmes for the all-time franchise lead in rushing yards in the win. He and the Chiefs are set to square off with the Rams in Week 8.

Andy Reid apologizes for not giving RB Jamaal Charles enough touches
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed the media on Monday and apologized for not giving running back Jamaal Charles enough carries in the Week 5 defeat to the 49ers, per ESPN. It's the second time this season he's apologized getting Charles enough touches.

Charles took 11 handoffs for 49 yards in the first half, but received only five touches after halftime. He totaled 84 yards on 16 touches in the defeat.

"If we had that to do over again...I'd probably come back and hand it to him and give him an opportunity to make that play," Reid said.

The Chiefs will travel to San Diego for a divisional showdown against the Chargers in Week 6.

Jamaal Charles gets the heavy work
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

In Week 4, the Chiefs had the luxury of giving both running backs a steady diet of work, and it worked out well for all parties involved. However, with Week 5's matchup against the 49ers in constant doubt, it was Jamaal Charles who got the bulk of the work Sunday.

Charles didn't see a huge workload himself, amassing just 15 touches, but any talk of a running-back-by-committee approach went to the wayside, as Knile Davis had just two touches of his own. Charles showed he is recovered from an ankle injury last week, and looked solid again Sunday, rushing for 80 yards and averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

Charles got off to a disastrous start to the season, but has ended up around where we expected over the last two games. At this point, you should have little doubt about moving forward with Charles as your starting back.

Chiefs get away from RB Jamaal Charles in second half
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles ran 11 times for 49 yards in the first half at San Francisco, but received just five touches after halftime in the 22-17 loss. Charles finished with 15 carries for 80 yards and a 4-yard catch on four targets.

Charles has excelled the past two weeks despite dealing with an ankle injury and just moved into second place on the team's all-time rushing list, passing Larry Johnson. He should come back following the Week 6 bye at or near 100 percent.
