Former Bears defensive lineman
Wootton had surgery on his right hip in January, but is expected to be fully healthy by July. He had 34 tackles, five passes defended, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 2013.
‘‘I’m just really excited to see what’s going on," he told the paper. "Obviously, I would like to stay with the Bears, but I don’t know how it’s looking. I guess we’ll have a better understanding when free agency happens.’’
Wootton said he feels great eight weeks after surgery. "I feel better walking around than I did before having the surgery," he said. "I don’t have that pain in my hip anymore.’’
Wootton said he initially injured the hip during training camp, which forced him to miss some practice time. The injury got worse throughout the year, as Wootton started all 16 games with the club. "I wasn’t 100 percent this season," Wootton said. "I just tried to gut it out." Wootton downplayed the surgery, saying it was "common." He's set to be a free-agent.
