Goalie smash! Watch Mike Smith break his stick after giving up goal

By Brian Stubits | Hockey writer

Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith wasn't very happy when he gave up the sixth goal of the game to Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night, an eventual 6-4 loss for Phoenix.

Smith struggled for the second straight game to open the season and gave up a really bad goal to Marian Hossa just seconds into the third period. But the Coyotes scored two goals in response soon after and the Coyotes found themselves back in the game, down just 5-4 at the time.

That's where this up-ice rush from the Blackhawks came in and when Smith into HULK MODE!

By the way, totally lost in the awesomeness of a goaltender snapping (both mentally and literally snapping his stick), what a great pass from Patrick Sharp on this play for the assist on Patrick Kane's goal.

Oh by the way, we learned when Smith was in Tampa Bay that he really does know how to swing the lumber, showing off his power swing with a home run in batting practice with the Tampa Bay Rays.
