Frustration appears to be setting in for the New York Rangers as they fight for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
On Thursday they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Florida Panthers, the worst team in the NHL, and now face the possibility of being without Rick Nash for a couple of games if the league gets a look at this hit on Tomas Kopecky.
Wow.
Amazingly there was no penalty called on the play, but that's pretty blatant. It's not only a hit to the back of the head, but he also appears to leave his feet prior to contact to make it happen. If there's any consistency in NHL discipline, that should probably be a couple of games for Nash.
Following Thursday's loss, the Rangers are tied with Carolina for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with 32 points, but the Hurricanes would currently own the tiebreaker due to having more regulation and overtime wins. For a team that was a popular preseason Stanley Cup final pick, that's just not going to go over well in New York.
Coach John Tortorella doesn't seem happy, either, as his reaction to Florida's empty-net goal illustrates.
